Moeity

2018

paper, translucent paper, cellophane, netting, mixed media drawings

ECF Art Center, San Pedro, CA

Moeity emerged from a residency at an ECF Art Center, where artists with mental and physical disabilities develop independent studio practices within a supportive communal environment. The work incorporates materials prepared by participating artists alongside selected mixed-media drawings, extending their mark-making into three dimensions. Developed through sustained collaboration, the project locates significance in positioning exuberance, play, and chromatic excess as deliberate aesthetic gestures. Rather than framing disability through absence or limitation, the work asserts visibility and creative authority as central forces shaping its form, distributing authorship across many hands and decisions. The installation proposes joy not as ornament but as a guiding principle for collective making.
